Dairy giant Müller has confirmed that it will be acquiring Biotiful Gut Health, a UK brand home to a wide range of dairy-based functional food and beverage products.
Although the dairy behemouth hasn't disclosed the financial details of the acquisition, industry sources estimate that the deal was closed at more than £100m.*
Biotiful is currently the number one kefir brand in the UK
Müller isn't the first large company in the food and beverage (F&B) space to invest in the gut health, with Pepsi acquiring prebiotic soda brand Poppi in March.
Biotiful is currently the number one kefir brand in the UK, as many consumers turn to functional food and beverage products to boost their health and wellbeing.
According to Richard Williams, CEO of Müller Yogurt & Desserts, Biotiful's buisness "fits really well" within the company's existing brand portfolio.
"We're already boosting and optimising our range of health and nutrition products, and Biotiful Gut Health will help us expand into new growth areas and address changes in consumer needs," he added.
Under the terms of the acquisition, Biotiful will continue operations as usual, with the company's founder, Natasha Bowes, supporting the team in an advisory capacity.
Müller's CEO will also join the leadership team, assisting the company in realising its growth ambitions.
"Biotiful will now be in the most fertile ecosystem — the Müller family — with its immense resources and burning desire to create the strongest possible natural health platform," added Bowes in a LinkedIn post.
"I'm especially excited about how Biotiful's market growth can now be amplified and accelerated through the Müller; using its breadth and depth of resources to take natural gut health to the next level," she concluded.
