The ingredient supplier SUANNUTRA has announced the success of its lemon verbena extract cultivation in Valencia, Spain, strengthening the ingredient's supply chain.
The company said that by sourcing the ingredient locally, it has ensured full traceability and a reliable, standardised botanical extract.
The ingredient forms some of the firm's branded ingredients, such as Metabolaid, RelaxPLX and Elissara, so a dependable supply is crucial.
Jaime Durán Sanz, Chief Business Officer for SUANNUTRA, said: "Growing it locally with full control from planting to final product reinforces our commitment to responsible botanical sourcing.”
The company added that it had considered climate adaptations for the project; since Lemon verbena is native to South America, working with the right agricultural model is essential for it to thrive elsewhere.
“To support resilience, we have diversified cultivation across different farms and microclimates within the Valencia region,” notes Durán Sanz.
This reduces reliance on a single location and gives us more flexibility across growing seasons. We have also implemented agronomic practices such as drip irrigation and soil-covering techniques to support water efficiency and help preserve soil moisture.
"In addition, we collaborate with specialised nurseries to ensure that plants arrive in the field in optimal condition.”
The company said that this results in a more robust cultivation model designed to support both quality and continuity.
This collaborative project also involved local growers, agronomists, specialised nurseries and SUANNUTRA’s technical and quality teams, each contributing specific expertise to ensure product quality.

It connects agricultural knowledge with SUANNUTRA’s expertise in botanical ingredients and clinical innovation.
SUANNUTRA added that it harvests its lemon verbena leaves at the optimal time, then carefully dries and processes them to maintain their phytochemical integrity.
The resulting extract is tested to meet the firm's stringent specifications for premium, science-based ingredients.
