dsm-firmenich's life's OMEGA shortlisted for NutraIngredients-USA mind, mood and healthspan awards

The dual nominations recognise a high-potency microencapsulated gummy ingredient and a consumer omega-3 product backed by the DO-HEALTH trial, which linked microalgae omega-3 to slowed biological ageing

dsm-firmenich has had two products from its Life’s OMEGA portfolio named as finalists at the NutraIngredients-USA Awards 2026.

The microalgae omega-3 solutions have been shortlisted for the ‘Mind and Mood Ingredient of the Year’ and ‘Healthspan Product of the Year’ categories, with winners being announced on July 13th.

"What connects both nominations is the same principle: rigorous science translated into products that make a measurable difference,” said Dr Seletha Periman, Director of Innovation, Application and Premix Formulation, Health, Nutrition & Care, North America, dsm-firmenich.

“With life's OMEGA O33-P100, we solved a longstanding formulation challenge to deliver substantial, clinically relevant omega-3 levels in formats consumers truly enjoy.

We're also proud to help make high-potency microalgae omega-3 nutrition more accessible through the Spring Valley product, in response to growing demands for supplements that support healthy longevity.

"That journey — from evidence to innovation to impact — is what drives our R&D investment across the life's OMEGA portfolio."

Gummy and soft chew formats have historically struggled to deliver consistent levels of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) due to stability, taste and formulation challenges.

dsm-firmenich said that its life’s OMEGA 033-P100 — a microencapsulated omega-3 powder — was designed specifically for these formats.

Nominated for ‘Mind and Mood Ingredient of the Year, the microalgae-based ingredient features "advanced encapsulation technology" that dsm said protects the omega-3 oils from heat, oxygen and light, enabling manufacturers to create formulations that provide up to 500 mg of omega-3s per two-piece gummy serving.

Bringing landmark longevity science to consumers

Consumers are becoming more discerning in their supplement choices and are searching for ingredients with scientific backing.

dsm says its ingredients are well positioned to meet this trend, with the DO-HEALTH trial establishing life's OMEGA as a science-backed ingredient for healthy ageing.

It was one of the largest studies to date on healthy ageing, following 2157 adults aged 70 and older across five countries.

The research evaluated whether targeted nutrition and lifestyle changes could support healthy ageing using life’s OMEGAmicroalgae omega-3 and Quali-D vitamin D, finding that daily omega-3 supplementation slowed biological ageing across various epigenetic clocks.

Supplementation with omega-3 also showed additional benefits when combined with vitamin D and exercise.

"Being recognised as a finalist in both Ingredient of the Year and Product of the Year categories reflects the breadth of what our life's OMEGA platform can deliver — from solving formulation challenges for our customers, to putting science-backed omega-3 nutrition directly into consumers' hands," added Paulo Henrique Santos, Associate Director, Marketing DS, Health, Nutrition & Care, North America, dsm-firmenich.

Brain health and healthy ageing are two of the most dynamic categories in the current supplement market and these nominations reinforce our commitment to advancing microalgae omega-3 innovation that meets real consumer needs in both.
