Growth Studio has announced the launch of Breakout Wellness UK, a new eight-week accelerator designed to help high-growth UK wellness brands overcome the commercial and operational barriers involved in scaling into mainstream retail.
The programme, which begins in September 2026, will select ten founders working across areas such as the following:
- gut health
- functional nutrition
- hydration
- energy and recovery
- longevity
- sleep
- stress management
- and women’s health.
Applications are now open, with the programme set to culminate in a November Grand Finale where participants will pitch to retailers and investors.
Two winners will each receive a TikTok Shop support package worth £150,000.
For wellness and nutraceutical businesses, however, becoming “retail ready” requires more than having an innovative product, according to Paul Finch, Chief Architect of Breakout Wellness UK and co-founder of Growth Studio.
“Retailers look for assurance in a number of areas; traction and ability to sell is obviously front of mind,” Finch told Nutraceutical Business Review.
But retailers also need confidence that there is robust compliance in place, credible health claims, strong manufacturing and supply chain processes that can flex to retailer demand.
He added that brands also need "clear branding, effective consumer education and the ability to meet demand consistently," alongside an understanding of pricing, category strategy, merchandising and the factors that drive sell-through.
These challenges are becoming increasingly important as wellness brands seek to move beyond direct-to-consumer channels and establish a presence in national retail.
Finch identified several issues such as regulatory complexity and supply chain scalability as key barriers facing emerging businesses.
Overwhelmingly, new entrepreneurs are navigating increasingly complex layers of regulation.
"They must ensure that health claims are evidence-based and compliant, building consumer trust in a market where misinformation is widespread and creating brands that stand out in an increasingly crowded category."
