Standard Process has launched MediHerb GLP-1 Bitter Complex, a botanical supplement combining hops and feverfew extracts to support satiety signalling, appetite regulation and digestive function.
The US company, which distributes Australian herbal supplement brand MediHerb exclusively in the US, said the formulation combines traditional Western herbal medicine with contemporary research into bitter taste receptors and gut-brain signalling.
Designed for practitioner-directed use, the supplement is intended to support healthy eating patterns, pre-meal digestive function and gastrointestinal tone alongside nutrition, physical activity and other lifestyle interventions.
The launch comes amid huge consumer interest in GLP-1, the hormone involved in appetite regulation and glucose metabolism.
According to a 2025 survey by US health policy research organisation KFF, 12% of US adults reported currently taking a GLP-1 medication, highlighting the expanding relevance of appetite and metabolic health to the nutrition and supplement industries.
Botanical approach to satiety signalling
MediHerb GLP-1 Bitter Complex is based on the role of bitter taste receptors, which occur both on the tongue and throughout the gastrointestinal tract, where they contribute to digestive and signalling processes.
According to Professor Kerry Bone, MediHerb co-founder, the combination of hops and feverfew offers a botanical approach to supporting the body's natural GLP-1 pathway and healthy appetite regulation.
Simone DuBois, Vice President of Business Strategy at Standard Process, said the formulation builds on the traditional use of bitter herbs for digestive support.
MediHerb GLP-1 Bitter Complex builds on that herbal tradition with a targeted combination of Hops and Feverfew, bringing a botanical and holistic perspective to the growing conversation around satiety signalling and digestive health.
However, the company did not provide product-specific clinical trial data demonstrating that the formulation increases GLP-1 levels or produces weight loss in its launch announcement.
Standard Process expands its nutrition portfolio
The launch follows a series of product and brand developments at Standard Process in 2026.
In February, the company introduced a refreshed brand identity centred on whole-food nutrition and practitioner support.
Subsequent launches included SP Children's ProSynbiotic, a synbiotic supplement for children's digestive and immune health, announced in March, as well as Royal Ancient Oats Flour, a whole-food oat ingredient positioned around metabolic and digestive health, announced in April.
This most recent launch reflects how supplement manufacturers are exploring botanical approaches to appetite awareness, digestive health and metabolic wellness, as GLP-1 biology attracts greater attention.
However, further product-specific research will be important in establishing the extent to which bitter herbal formulations can deliver measurable effects on satiety and metabolic outcomes.
