This prestigious recognition underlines Fermentalg’s constant commitment to sustainability and its position as a responsible company.

From impact native to a leading and acknowledged company in sustainability

Preserving Marine Biodiversity: Fermentalg focuses on revealing the potential of marine micro-organisms with natural solutions having a positive impact on human and animal health, biodiversity and the climate.

Micro-organism strains are collected only once and then replicated and produced via fermentation or photosynthesis, reducing reliance on natural resources.

For example, the company’s vegan omega-3s offer an alternative to fish oil, contributing to marine biodiversity preservation as 1 ton of algal DHA oil produced preserve 44 tons of anchovies from fishing.

This recognition marks a significant improvement from last year, when Fermentalg received the Silver Medal, reflecting the company’s commitment to improving its sustainable and responsible practices.

Fermentalg’s dedication to sustainability was further validated by achieving a platinum rating by Etifinance for its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance.

Designing new production models to reduce the environmental impact

Renewable energy: Fermentalg is committed to adopting clean energy sources. Currently, 100% of the electricity used at its Libourne site comes from renewable sources. The company is working with partners to increase the share of renewable energy used in industrial production from 30% in 2024 to 100% by 2030.

Ecofriendly products: Fermentalg is exploring alternative substrates to reduce its environmental impact. Additionally, the company is implementing an innovative tank cleaning system in 2024, projected to reduce water consumption.

Emission reduction: Fermentalg regularly monitors and manages its environmental impact by tracking greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The company successfully reduced CO2 emissions by 26% per kg of oil produced between 2022 and 2023 through continuous process improvements.

Fermentalg leverages a European facility that utilises locally grown, non-GMO corn glucose as a carbon source, reducing the environmental footprint.
