Symrise makes steps towards nutraceutical supply chain sustainability with new programme

The company is encouraging the use of regenerative agriculture, while also finding ways to mitigate supply chain risks associated with climate change

Symrise has taken steps to secure its sourcing approach, ensuring the security supply of natural ingredients for its customers.

To achieve this, the company has designed a programme of sustainable sourcing strategies amidst global climate change issues and the limited availability of food crops.

This initiative aims to secure Symrise's business continuity in the dynamic nutraceutical industry, and includes efforts such as:

  • A long-term risk assessment related to water, access to labour, climate and land for types of fruit and vegetables
  • Developing strategies to mitigate the risks described through regenerative agriculture practises
  • Using sustainable farming strategies to enhance biodiversity, carbon sequestration and the efficiency of water usage
  • Promoting the trade of sustainably sourced food products with clear labelling and natural ingredients

Barbara Malmezat, Global Purchasing and Risk Director at Symrise F&B Naturals, commented: "Working with a reliable partner can help turn future challenges into opportunities. Symrise believes that players capable of mitigating future risks will offer manufacturers a secure supply and will also open opportunities in terms of market share and competitiveness, as well as brand image – and much more besides."

“Symrise is making changes today to support its vision of a sustainable future,” says Barbara Malmezat.
