PharmaLinea has announced that a clinical study evaluating its finished formulation for iron deficiency has found the supplement to be comparable to ferrous sulfate, but with fewer side effects.
The recently completed randomised, double-blind trial assessed the efficacy and safety of the company’s >Your< Iron Forte Capsules and a low-dose ferrous sulfate comparator (ferrous sulfate capsules).
The company reports that >Your< Iron Forte Capsules delivered comparable improvements in haemoglobin and iron status, while demonstrating a more favourable tolerability profile with significantly fewer side effects, thus addressing a key limitation of conventional iron supplements.
The 12-week study included 101 adults with mild to moderate, non-anaemic dietary iron deficiency, who followed a once-daily supplementation regimen.
Researchers monitored haematological and iron-related parameters as well as adverse events, with the primary endpoint being the change in haemoglobin from baseline.
"This is already the third study confirming the efficacy of the finished products in >Your< Iron Line, which has also received several industry awards," commented PharmaLinea’s Marketing Director, Matevž Ambrožič.
Why this matters
Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency globally, affecting particularly women of reproductive age and children.
If left unaddressed, it can progress to iron deficiency anaemia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 40% of children aged 6–59 months, 37% of pregnant women and 30% of women aged 15–49 years globally are anaemic.
WHO guidelines to reduce the prevalence of anaemia emphasise improving dietary diversity, infant feeding practices and increasing micronutrient intake, including iron supplementation.
However, poor gastrointestinal tolerability remains a key challenge of conventional iron supplements and a frequent cause of low compliance. Addressing this limitation is critical to improving real-world outcomes in iron deficiency management.
PharmaLinea said that it developed >Your< Iron Line in response to these issues, with the range now the company’s leading iron supplement line.
Alongside this newly completed study, the lineup has already achieved multiple clinical evaluations and industry recognitions, including the following:
- Gold-standard clinical trial on iron-deficient children with >Your< Iron Syrup
- NutraIngredients-Asia Award for >Your< Iron Syrup
- Runner-up Taste Award for >Your< Iron Forte Liquid at Vitafoods Asia
