According to Mintel’s Global Food and Drink Trend Reports 2021, food and beverage formulations that offer health benefits, as well as support mental and emotional wellbeing, are among the current mega trends

Taiyo, a provider of natural dietary fibres, and Asiros, a Danish fruit powders specialist, have teamed up to develop and market high-fibre fruit powder products called BerryShield Premium Conventional and BerryShield Organic. The products can be sold on their own or processed into finished product applications, and are aimed at companies in the nutraceuticals and food & beverage sectors in the EMEA region.

“Taiyo and Asiros are pursuing similar goals by bringing products to market that are technologically convincing, and can offer added health value. In the collaboration, we combine our comprehensive know-how in natural plant-based premium ingredients,” said Dr Stefan Siebrecht, MD of Taiyo.

The company’s range is based on natural, ISO-certified dietary fibre Sunfiber derived from partially hydrolysed guar gum (PHGG), and is water-soluble and non-viscous. Taiyo claims PHGG has been clinically proven to exert a positive influence on digestion and lowering the glycaemic index.

Asiros produces of organic and conventional products from natural raw fruits and plant-based ingredients. Its harvest comes exclusively from Danish and European contract farming. The company creates the blends which combine the water-soluble, non-viscous fibre with the natural effects of individual fruits, in different quality grades.

“We are very excited about our cooperation with Taiyo GmbH and the creation of innovative prebiotic juice powders made with Sunfiber,” announced Carsten, Aalund COO/Commercial Director of Asiros Nordic.

The first BerryShield products, which will be launched on the market this summer, come from the lesser-known berry varieties Tartcherry, Elderberry and Lingonberry.
