Nutriearth’s patented biomimetic technology sets new standards for effectiveness, sustainability and safety in vitamin D3

Nutriearth, an innovator in the production of natural and sustainable vitamin D3 from edible insect, has officially inaugurated its first commercial manufacturing site in Carvin, France. Supported by a pool of renowned investors and regional partners, this state-of-the-art facility embodies Nutriearth’s move to industrial-scale production, with capacity to supply not only the human nutrition and health sectors, but also the pet food, animal feed, functional foods and nutraceuticals markets globally.

The Carvin site, developed following a €7.45 million fundraising round, integrates Nutriearth’s R&D, quality and production operations under pharmaceutical-grade principles to guarantee exceptional quality, hygiene and traceability. The facility’s layout follows strict cleanroom standards, with independent and physically separated production lines for Nutriearth’s two vitamin D3 product formats.

The facility produces Nutriearth’s natural vitamin D3 in both oil and powder forms. All ingredients, whether destined for animal nutrition, such as pet food and feed, or for human health in functional foods and dietary supplements, are manufactured entirely onsite. Nutriearth’s oil, Nutra-oil, is already approved for use in supplements and functional foods in North America, while its functional flour, N-utra, received approval from the European Commission in February 2025, opening new opportunities for product innovation and nutritional enrichment across Europe.

This new investment delivers direct benefits for European producers and consumers by providing a locally manufactured, sustainable supply of vitamin D3, reducing dependency on imports from China and India, which currently account for 99.9% of the global market. At the same time, Nutriearth’s Carvin facility will serve international customers, accelerating the company’s growth ambitions and providing millions with a responsible, nature-based answer to vitamin D deficiency.

“Nutriearth is a perfect example of what we aim to promote in Hauts-de-France: a company born here that innovates, grows and chooses to establish itself firmly and sustainably in our region. By supporting Nutriearth from the very beginning, the Region is reaffirming its commitment to backing forward-looking industrial projects that create jobs while also providing tangible solutions to public health and ecological transition challenges. With this new site in Carvin, we are sending a strong message: Hauts-de-France is a land of innovation and sustainable industrialisation. This too is what Hauts-de-France stands for — a region that is transforming itself,” said Philippe Beauchamps, Vice-President of the Hauts-de-France Region in charge of business relations, employment and vocational training.

“With this new facility, Nutriearth broadens its reach and becomes a major actor in the European and global vitamin D3 market,” said Jeremy Burks, CEO of Nutriearth. “Our method delivers the world’s only natural, sustainable and highly bioavailable vitamin D3, setting new standards for human nutrition and planetary health. The Carvin site has the capacity to cover the vitamin D3 needs of over 50 million people, supporting healthier lives throughout Europe and around the globe.”

“Today, I pay tribute to Nutriearth’s founders and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who made this milestone possible — our investors and banks, several of whom are in attendance today, for their concrete support for the vision of Nutriearth; our suppliers and service providers for joining us and supporting us on our journey; and of course, to our customers and distributors, current and future,” continued Burks. “I want to thank Région Hauts-de-France and regional players, including Nord France Invest, Agglomération Hénin-Carvin, Eurasanté and many others for their help and support throughout our development.”

Nutriearth is proud to be supported by a strong network of investors and institutional partners, including Demeter Investment Managers, Captech Santé, Rev3 Capital, Nord Capital, Nord France Amorçage and BPI France. Their confidence and commitment have been instrumental in bringing the Carvin facility and Nutriearth’s long-term vision to life.

Groundbreaking vitamin D3 solutions: Nutriearth’s patented products for food, feed and health

Vitamin D deficiency impacts nearly half the world’s population, creating urgent health challenges for millions, especially children, seniors and those with limited sun exposure. Nutriearth is directly addressing this crisis by transforming how vitamin D3 is produced, introducing a revolutionary method that is as natural as it is effective.

Backed by more than 60 global patents, Nutriearth’s breakthrough lies in its use of Tenebrio molitor (the mealworm), an edible insect recognised for its nutritional profile and consumed by traditional cultures for thousands of years. At the core of Nutriearth’s innovation is a patented biomimetic process that mimics the body’s own synthesis of vitamin D3: mealworm flour, naturally rich in a vitamin D3 precursor identical to the one found in human skin, is exposed to a specific type of light. This triggers a natural conversion into bioactive, highly absorbable vitamin D3, entirely without chemical extraction, solvents or additives.

Scientific studies have shown Nutriearth's vitamin D3 is absorbed up to three times better than vitamin D3 derived from lanolin and twice as well as that from lichen, which are typically produced through multi-step chemical processes such as extraction and purification using solvents.

The sustainability profile is equally striking: an independent Life Cycle Assessment found 76.8% lower greenhouse gas emissions and an eightfold lower total environmental impact compared to lanolin-derived vitamin D3. By producing locally with minimal resource use, Nutriearth further eliminates dependence on distant supply chains and offers a sustainable solution for both the European and global markets.
