VitaMK7: naturally stable also in formulation

VitaMK7 has a clean profile that's achievable through a state-of-the-art industrial fermentation process and shows excellent stability data

Last year Gnosis launched the 'Stability study Project' on vitaMK7®, when formulated with different mineral salts. New data - 12 months at room temperature, with calcium citrate, calcium carbonate and arginine - has been disclosed showing a stable profile. Mineral salts are often included in the finished supplements commercialised with vitamin K2. However, the MK7 ingredients available on today's market have different production methods and equally different purity profile, which can affect their stability, including in formulation.

VitaMK7® has a clean profile that's achievable through a state-of-the-art industrial fermentation process and shows excellent stability data – 4 years at room temperature – and notable assay recovery to short time light exposure (48h) - the real stability issue of vitamin K2 - of approximately 93%. In formulation, vitaMK7® shows an optimal stability with the different calcium salts, without any coating increasing non-natural substances. A pure and stable MK7 ingredient like vitaMK7® minimises the cross-reactions with other ingredients/excipients included in a formulation for the whole shelf-life of the product, and offers extended warranty of stability.

Generally, both synthetic-derived MK7 and poor production method of fermentation-derived MK7 increase the impurity content of the raw material contributing to a more instable chemical behavior in formulations. The use of solvents in the production process can also degrade the product and produce further impurities. As such, with a high level of impurities, K2-plus-mineral products are likely to miss K2 label claim. Newly published analytical study that proposes novel method for separating and measuring impurities in finished products with MK7, emphasises that "…The occurrence of a large quantity of cis/trans isomers in supplements is likely connected with the use of preparations containing synthetic MK-7 …." VitaMK7® is the fermented vitamin K2 as MK7, produced for more than 10 years by Gnosis in its own GMP manufacturing site in Italy, and offers a high clean profile with all-trans active isomer and almost no impurities.
