An effective micronutrient supplement for mental performance and energy release

Physical stamina and mental acuity are both important for achievement-driven individuals to perform

Leading a healthy lifestyle with exercise and balanced nutrition can help us to remain a step ahead, even when we have many professional and personal responsibilities to tackle.

However, consuming a balanced diet can be challenging. This is why many consumers turn to micronutrient supplements such as Berocca from Bayer’s Consumer Health Division.

Its unique formula contains all eight of the B complex vitamins and vitamin C, as well as magnesium and zinc. The B vitamins are known to play an important role in energy metabolism and cognitive function. They act synergistically and can help consumers to gain the necessary nutrition to perform at their best.

To date, only a few studies have assessed the relationship between supplementation with nutritional products and brain function. Berocca belongs to the few supplements with extensive scientific evidence.

The B vitamins contained in Berocca are known to be involved in cognitive function and energy metabolism. In situations of stress, some nutrients are used more quickly. Ideally, individuals can counteract this situation by consuming more fruits and vegetables and having a healthy balanced diet in general. In a fast-paced world, however, micronutrient supplements such as Berocca are a convenient way to make up nutrient shortfalls.

Many multivitamin supplements often only target cognitive performance alone. As physical energy and mental sharpness are highly related, Berocca has been developed to help supplement a healthy diet. The formula is specifically tailored to help release energy from food and support mental alertness. Berocca comes either in great-tasting effervescent or in convenient film-coated tablets. It contains no artificial stimulants, preservatives and is sugar-free.

Research findings by Professor Dr David Kennedy, Director of the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre in the School of Life Science at Northumbria University (Newcastle, UK), and Professor Dr Andrew Scholey, Director of the Centre for Human Psychopharmacology at Swinburne University (Melbourne, Australia), demonstrated that supplementation with Berocca significantly improves general mental health, reduces subjective stress and fatigue, and increases vigour and overall mood.

Recent studies from Professor Scholey indicated that Berocca has rapid, positive effects on attention and working memory compared with a placebo. With his team, he mapped brain activity using two state-of-the-art technologies: steady state topography and functional magnetic resonance imaging, which detects blood flow changes in the brain. Both technologies showed increased activation in parietal-frontal brain regions associated with attention and working memory in healthy young adults.

In this fast-paced modern world, large sections of the population struggle to find the time to eat the kind of varied balanced diet required to satisfy all of our micronutrient requirements. Therefore, many people may find supplementation to be a useful alternative.
