With the beauty-from-within trend gathering pace, the nutricosmetics industry is seeing growing interest from consumers seeking to optimise their appearance with supplements and functional foods. 

But while TikTok and Instagram continue to fuel interest in the latest beauty and wellness innovations, they have also created a more informed and discerning consumer. Increasingly, shoppers are looking beyond viral marketing claims in favour of products backed by scientific evidence. Against this backdrop, Finnish startup Zephyrian is developing carotenoid-based capsules to support a "sun-free, year-round tan" by influencing skin tone from within using a science-led formulation approach.

A burgeoning market

The skin ageing category is undergoing a fundamental shift from reactive, surface-level treatments toward a proactive, science-led approach to age management. Carotenoids could certainly emerge as a compelling group of ingredients in that space.
