Hiroki Takeda, Deputy General Manager, Megmilk Snow Brand Co., Ltd., has announced formation of the Functional Ingredients Group, a distinct part of the company’s newly established Global Nutrition & Food Business Division (GN&F Business Division) launched October 2026.
According to Takeda, the Functional Ingredients Group is responsible for domestic and international B2B sales of nutraceutical ingredients, including SBT2055, a science-driven Lactobacillus paragasseri probiotic strain. Megmilk Snow Brand will feature SBT2055 at SupplySide Global in Las Vegas, booth #4031.
Our goal is not simply to sell ingredients. Through collaboration with trusted brand owners, distributors, and OEM/manufacturing partners, we aim to deliver value that contributes to health benefits, longer healthy life expectancy, and improved quality of life. We do this through appropriate product development and communication based on scientific evidence and applicable regulations in each market.
Stated Takeda.
One example is SBT2055, a human-derived probiotic strain supported by more than 50 scientific publications, including 18 clinical studies, with clinically proven benefits for gut health, immune function, and metabolic health — especially visceral fat reduction.
Guided by the concept of “Science for Healthier Living,” the goal is to grow SBT2055 from an ingredient that is simply included in a formulation into a probiotic ingredient brand chosen by both brand owners and consumers because of its scientific credibility, according to Takeda. The Functional Ingredients Group will drive the global expansion of SBT2055 in an integrated manner.
Takeda further explained, “In overseas supplement markets, the functionality of an ingredient alone is not sufficient. The research behind it, efforts to ensure quality and safety, and the ability to communicate value to consumers are also important. For this reason, Megmilk Snow Brand will develop SBT2055 not merely as a strain or ingredient name, but as an ingredient brand with scientific credibility, quality, expertise in Japanese dairy and lactic acid bacteria research, and distinctive value.”
Functional Ingredients Group also includes technical support and can coordinate cross-functional capabilities, including brand strategy, product planning, evidence utilisation, manufacturing and quality, regulatory affairs, supply, and logistics. Takeda commented, “This structure enables us to support ongoing collaboration even after an ingredient has been adopted.”
Megmilk Snow Brand was founded in the 1920s with the guiding principle, “Kendo Kenmin,” which means “a healthy earth ensures human health.” Its newly formed Functional Ingredients Group aims to become a long-term partner for U.S. brand owners in creating next-generation wellness products.
