Grøntvedt Biotech to exhibit for the first time at SupplySide West

Published: 17-Oct-2022

Part of the well-established Norwegian Grøntvedt Group and with a long history of sustainable pelagic fishing, the company’s recently inaugurated Biotech division will showcase a novel omega-3 oil that’s rich in cetoleic acid on booth 5949

Grøntvedt Biotech is delighted to make its first-time appearance at the SupplySide West (SSW) 2022 trade show in Las Vegas (NV, US).

Offering a vertically integrated operation, which benefits from a state-of-the-art processing system that uses a low-temperature, solvent-free procedure, 100% traceable and sustainably sourced herring are processed from “fish to oil” in 30 minutes.

The resulting omega-3 oil has no fishy smell or taste, does not cause reflux, is rich in vitamins D, A and E, and most importantly, benefits from a high concentration of cetoleic acid, which is known to boost the human body’s ability to convert ALA into EPA and DHA.1

“We’ve been working with herring and mackerel for generations and understand the health benefits that these fatty fish offer,” says Bjørnar Grøntvedt, CEO, Grøntvedt Group.

“We’ve now developed our own herring extract and made a completely smell- and taste-free omega-3 oil with a high cetoleic acid content.”

“The cetoleic acid, which is only found in North Atlantic pelagic fish species, makes this omega-3 oil unique,” adds Henrik Traaholt, Chief Commercial Officer (pictured).

"Having worked with herring and mackerel since 1830 and with full access to a sustainable marine source, we’re looking forward as a company to scaling-up production, building long-term partnerships and bringing this innovative product to the global market in both liquid and capsule forms.”

“We’re keen to talk to the visitors at SSW about our product. The fast processing time reduces the risk of oxidation, we’re only using a single species that’s not adversely affected by ocean pollutants (herring swim neither near the surface nor the bottom of the sea) and have access to a cutting-edge, low carbon footprint plant. It should be a good event.”

Norwegian herring and mackerel have been a cornerstone of the Norwegian and European diet for several thousand years. Norwegian herring is known for its high fatty acid content and nutritional value.

In recent years, the benefits of cetoleic acid have been elucidated and shown to stimulate human cells to produce EPA and DHA. Grøntvedt Biotech is conducting further clinical studies to support the science behind cetoleic acid and its health benefits.

SupplySide West is the largest trade show for professionals in the dietary supplement, beverage, functional food, personal care and sports nutrition industries.
