Ennature Biopharma has announced a second peer-reviewed publication on Gingeren™, its standardised ginger extract, showing benefits for sexual function and sexual quality of life in women with primary dysmenorrhoea.
The paper, titled “A Standardized Ginger Extract Improves Sexual Function and Sexual Quality of Life in Women with Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial,” appears in Genetics and Molecular Research, Volume 25, Issue 17s (2026).
Painful periods affect an estimated 73% of menstruating women and can take a toll on emotional wellbeing, relationships and intimacy. This is the first clinical study to examine ginger's effects on sexual function in this group.
The analysis draws on the randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial behind Gingeren™'s first publication in Cureus. Ninety-six married women aged 20–30 took Gingeren™ (100 mg twice daily) or placebo for 90 days.

At the end of the third menstrual cycle, compared with placebo, Gingeren™ improved:
- Sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index) by 52%
- Sexual quality of life (SQoL-F questionnaire) by 47%
- All six sexual function domains, including desire by 49%, arousal by 54% and lubrication by 55%
- Psychosexual feelings by 49% and self-worth by 46%
All differences were statistically significant (p<0.0001), and average sexual function in the Gingeren™ group moved from a borderline score into the healthy range.
The authors link the results to lower prostaglandin F2α and ginger support for nitric oxide-mediated blood flow. Gingeren™ was well tolerated, with stable estradiol levels and a healthy vaginal microbiome, and reduced gastric discomfort by 56% versus placebo.
“We often think of women's health as just physical symptoms, but how a woman feels about her body, her relationships and her intimacy matters just as much. It's rarely talked about, let alone studied, so we're proud that Gingeren™ is helping to fill that gap. Supporting women at every stage of life, from menstruation to menopause, is what we're here to do, and that will never change,” said Pragya Bhartia Barwale, Managing Director, Ennature Biopharma.
