The functional mushroom sector is seeing continued investment in manufacturing capacity and formulation technology, according to the Functional Mushroom Council, whose members have been launching new ingredients and products across supplements, food and beverage and pet wellness.
Monterey Nutra, Aloha Medicinals, Fungi Perfecti and Om Mushrooms have all announced developments in Q3 2026, highlighting a growing focus on scalable supply and formats designed to make functional mushroom ingredients easier to incorporate into finished products.
The Functional Mushroom Council, a North American coalition of mushroom growers, suppliers and brands, promotes research, education and consumption of US-grown functional mushrooms.
The organisation currently lists more than 20 members across the sector.
Monterey Nutra expands US manufacturing
Monterey Nutra has doubled the manufacturing footprint of its Watsonville, California, facility, expanding capacity across its vertically integrated operation from mushroom genetics and cultivation through to finished ingredient production.
The expansion covers products including MycoPure Dual Extract Powders, Full Spectrum Powders and ManeFocus, with the company positioning domestic production and traceability as differentiators for brands seeking US-grown mushroom ingredients.
Monterey Nutra's portfolio currently spans species including lion's mane, reishi, cordyceps, chaga and turkey tail, available in formats including dual-extract and full-spectrum powders.
The company has also strengthened its commercial team with appointments covering food and beverage, supplements, sports nutrition and pet applications.
Formulation challenges come into focus
Aloha Medicinals has launched FungiFuse, a portfolio of four functional mushroom ingredient blends targeting focus, energy, daily wellness and relaxation.
The supplier says the ingredients have been developed to address formulation challenges associated with mushroom ingredients, including flavour, colour and mouthfeel.
The range is designed around a neutral flavour profile and high solubility, with organic and non-GMO options available.
Aloha has also highlighted custom formulations and single-strain ingredients, giving product developers flexibility to tailor mushroom solutions to different applications.
Mushrooms move into pet wellness and coffee
Fungi Perfecti's Host Defense brand entered the pet wellness category in August with Immune & Whole-Body Support, a powder combining mycelium from lion's mane, reishi, turkey tail, chaga and maitake for dogs and cats.
The company says the product is cultivated at its Washington state farm.
Meanwhile, Om Mushrooms is launching Focus Coffee Booster, a lion's mane powder designed to be added to coffee grounds before brewing rather than used as a standalone mushroom coffee.
The firm says the format delivers up to five times more active compounds in the brewed cup than other functional coffees, while retaining the taste of the consumer's existing coffee.
