Researchers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institute on Aging, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that the number of daily steps, not the intensity of stepping, had a strong association with living longer.
The difference with this study as opposed to previous ones is that studies were previously done on step counts and mortality in older adults or among those with debilitating chronic conditions. This study tracked a representative sample of approximately 4,800 participants aged 40 and over who wore accelerometers for up to seven days between 2003 and 2006. The participants were then followed for mortality through 2015 via the National Death Index.
During this time, researchers calculated the association between mortality and step number and intensity after adjustment for demographic and behavioral risk factors, body mass index, and health status at the start of the study.
Simply walking 8,000 steps per day resulted in a 51% reduction in the participant’s risk of dying. Most people already know that walking is a great way to exercise to improve health, and now there is even greater reason to get moving. But lest consumers not forget to care for their joints along the way.
A clinical trial was conducted on our branded eggshell membrane ingredient, NEM, in which healthy post-menopausal women performed a low-intensity step exercise. A once-daily, 500 mg dose of NEM rapidly reduced joint pain and stiffness resulting from the step exercise and improved recovery throughout a 12-hour post-exercise period. By looking at a cartilage biomarker, Stratum Nutrition also found that NEM protected the participant’s joint cartilage from breakdown caused by the exercise.
The unique ingredients and superior formulations we, here at Stratum Nutrition, use help people achieve a higher quality of life through health ingredients. As the pioneer with the leading eggshell membrane ingredient today, NEM will help care for your customers’ joints every step of the way.
