Banned Substances Control Group (BSCG) will showcase five third-party certification programmes for dietary supplement brands and manufacturers at this year's SupplySide Global show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 27-30.
The anti-doping and testing specialist will exhibit at booth #6383, highlighting its BSCG Certified Drug Free, Certified Quality, Certified GMP, Certified CBD and Certified Facility programmes.
The programmes are designed to address different requirements across the supplement supply chain, including banned-substance testing, label-claim verification, contaminant screening and GMP compliance.
BSCG Certified Drug Free provides lot-by-lot testing for more than 450 drugs, including more than 400 substances banned in sport alongside prescription, over-the-counter and illicit drugs.
The programme also incorporates quality-control and GMP verification, annual label-claim and contaminant testing and allows brands to use qualified external laboratories and audit providers within BSCG's network.
The company said both its Certified Drug Free and Certified Quality programmes are included in Amazon's compliance fast-track for non-high-risk dietary supplements, enabling certified products to automatically pass through the retailer's compliance process without further action from brands.
Certified Quality focuses on consumer and retailer protection, with annual verification of label claims and testing for contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides and microbiological agents, as well as banned substances.
Meanwhile, Certified GMP provides GMP compliance verification and a GMP seal for use on product packaging, while Certified CBD combines cannabinoid and THC verification with banned-substance, contaminant and quality-control testing.
Certified Facility provides onsite GMP audits for manufacturing facilities.
The announcement follows several recent warnings from BSCG around emerging quality and compliance risks in the supplement market.
In June, the organisation warned that the growing market for unregulated peptides, injectable products and research chemicals could blur the distinction between legitimate dietary supplements and unapproved pharmaceutical products.
BSCG said the market's evolution called for brands to place greater emphasis on transparency, quality control, accurate labelling and third-party certification.
