The submissions were made in collaboration with Australia/New Zealand distribution partner Pathway International Pty Ltd whereby all 22 notified claims are now listed on the FSANZ database of food-health relationships. Crucially, this means that manufacturers and brands in Australia and New Zealand can include a range of gut mediated claims on the packaging of food products that contain Bimuno GOS.
The available claims for Bimuno GOS centre around supporting the gut microbiome, maintaining digestive health and supporting immune function. As required under self-substantiation, the 22 claims have undergone a rigorous and independent systematic review process and are underpinned by the impressive scientific portfolio behind Bimuno GOS, which includes more than 100 scientific publications and more than 20 clinical trials.
Per Rehné, CEO at Clasado Biosciences (pictured right), comments: “For formulators and consumers alike, trust and transparency are essential components of modern health and nutrition products. We are delighted that FSANZ has now added 22 food-health relationship claims for Bimuno GOS to their database as a result of the submission made in collaboration with Pathway International."
"This is particularly important for us at Clasado, as it signifies the added value that prebiotic Bimuno offers in relation to health benefits for the consumer on pack."
“As the category continues to flourish around the globe, we’re playing our part in making scientifically supported prebiotics more accessible and usable than ever before. Through the continual research around Bimuno GOS, we are providing brands with a powerful tool to meet the soaring demand for better everyday gut health: 22 available health claims is a significant amount, which is a fantastic reflection of the science behind the ingredient, which is the most studied prebiotic GOS of its kind.”
Bimuno GOS was made available to formulators in New Zealand and Australia following a distribution agreement between Clasado Biosciences and specialty healthcare ingredient distributor, Pathway International, in 2021.
Ideal for functional foods and beverages, the ingredient is designed to provide formulators with new heights of stability and versatility. Bimuno GOS nourishes bifidobacteria, a beneficial bacteria found in the human gut microbiome that is associated with key areas of health, including gastrointestinal health, immune function and emotional well-being.
Wayne Coote, Managing Director at Pathway International, adds: “The FSANZ claims that are now available to Bimuno GOS only strengthen the value proposition of an ingredient that is already class leading, and we are excited about the opportunities Bimuno GOS offers, particularly as consumer demand for prebiotics continues to increase."
“Prebiotic fibres are becoming the go-to choice in new product development due to their increasingly recognised health benefits and incredible stability. As a fibre substrate, it isn’t deteriorated by heat or acid, meaning it can be added at almost any point in the manufacturing process to a vast range of food applications."
"Consumers are more connected with health than ever before, and gut health is firmly on top of the agenda. We look forward to supporting brands across Australia and New Zealand with the creation of truly science-backed and consumer-led products.”
