ADM expands pet postbiotics portfolio with PRIOME Joint Health

Early studies indicate that supplementation with PRIOME JH supports joint health, cartilage function, collagen production, muscle maintenance, gut barrier function and healthy weight management in pets

ADM has announced the expansion of its PRIOME postbiotics portfolio for pets with the addition of PRIOME Joint Health (heat-treated Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus NCIMB 30446).

According to the firm, preliminary research shows that PRIOME JH has the potential to support joint health, cartilage function, collagen production, muscle maintenance, gut barrier function and healthy weight management.

Why this matters

Recent research has revealed a connection between the gut microbiome and joint health, known as the gut-joint axis. An imbalance in the gut microbiome can increase intestinal permeability, allowing harmful bacteria and compounds to enter the bloodstream.

This transfer of microbial metabolites may trigger responses linked to joint health. Evidence from a study on dogs showed that those with hip or elbow arthritis had notable differences in gut microbiome composition and reduced bacterial diversity compared to healthy dogs, supporting the gut-joint connection.

These findings, published in the journal Cells, suggest that supporting the gut microbiome with probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics could improve joint health.

"Joint health is among pet parents' top concerns for their pet's quality of life, as it can affect not only mobility but also energy, healthy ageing and activity levels," said Mark Lotsch, Global President, Health & Wellness at ADM.

Our postbiotic ingredient is an innovative science-backed solution that can support wellness in a variety of pet-friendly applications, providing pet parents with several convenient and easy-to-use options in pet care.

As inanimate microorganisms, postbiotic efficacy is not reliant on maintenance of cell viability and functionality is maintained throughout manufacturing and stability testing.

ADM expands pet postbiotics portfolio with PRIOME Joint HealthADM says that its postbiotics are "thoroughly validated by application scientists across a wide range of finished product formats," including dry kibble, wet food and baked treats, thus manufacturers can incorporate PRIOME into various formulations without impacting palatability.

"We combine deep formulation expertise with a robust portfolio of microbiome solutions—including prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics—to help brands bring consumer-driven pet products to market," said James Kyffin, Global Director, Pet and Animal Wellbeing at ADM.

From custom formulations to market-ready solutions, we enable convenient, on-trend innovations backed by clinically studied ingredients that deliver real value for today's pet parents.

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus NCIMB 30446 is an Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO)-accepted biotic species and ADM is a National Animal Supplement Council (NASC)-preferred supplier.
