VOOST gets behind Movember

Movember is one of the highest profile charity campaigns in the world

A fun way to raise awareness about some serious health issues relating to men, its ethos is to help stop men dying too young by promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to seek help for some of the most life-threatening cancers, while also highlighting the need to get help for, and recognise the symptoms of, depression and other mental health issues.

Cancer will now affect one in two people born after 1960 in the UK, with men having the highest lifetime risk of prostate, lung and bowl cancers. Depression and other mental health issues, such as anxiety, affect millions of people every year. And despite these being linked to women primarily, the statistics show that men also struggle with mental health problems.

Suicide has been recognised as the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK, and out of the 6233 suicides that were recorded in the UK in 2013, 78% of these were carried out by men.

Although there is no way to treat health-related problems such as cancer and depression solely with diet and lifestyle, maintaining a healthy diet has been suggested to help. Cancer Research for example notes that a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fibre, fruit and vegetables and less red and processed meat and salt can help to cut cancer risk.

Meanwhile, a healthy diet has been suggested as a way to help with the overall treatment of depression. Slow-release energy foods, such as nuts, seeds, oats and wholegrains can help to keep blood sugar levels even: uneven blood sugar levels can increase the feelings irritability and depression.

Healthy and varied diets are recommended for everyone, no matter what their age, background or lifestyle; yet, with increasingly busy lifestyles comes the temptation to grab any foods to keep going. Thinking ahead and packing filling foods, such as those high in fibre and protein to take on the go can help cut down on the need to snack between meals.

VÖOST, the delicious effervescent vitamin brand all the way from Australian shores, emphasises the importance of healthy diets for everyone to maintain a full life. And has also thrown its support behind Movember and urged everyone to keep their eye out for the symptoms of the illnesses and diseases the charity is promoting the awareness of.

Thomas Siebel, Managing Director at VÖOST, said: "Cancer is an increasingly serious issue in the modern world. Cancer rates are on the rise in both men and women alike, but for some reason men are less forthcoming about talking about cancer symptoms than women. Which is why Movember is such a good cause. Cancer Research UK suggests that healthier diets could in fact help to prevent one in 10 cancers. Therefore by making simple changes to diets, as well as undertaking regular exercise, people can help lower their risk of getting the life-threatening disease."

Although there is no proven way to help aid depression and other mental health issues with diet alone, improving eating habits by making small changes could help some symptoms feel less severe," added Thomas. "Although the world has got better at talking about mental health issues, it is still regarded as a taboo subject by some — particularly in the male community. But thanks to campaigns like Movember, we are able to really get behind it and highlight how important it is to talk about these things and make sure that we can all work together and make it easier for men to talk about their problems."

Movember supports work to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention. The charity started in 2003 and has since grown to be one of the most prominent and supported campaigns in the world, with celebrities and high-profile individuals growing a moustache to raise awareness for this great cause.

Healthy and varied diets are recommended for everyone, no matter what their age, background or lifestyle; yet, with busy lives comes the temptation to skip meals or consume an excessive amount of foods that are considered to be unhealthy and may not provide you with the daily intake of vitamins and minerals your body needs.

VÖOST's range contains a whole host of vitamins needed to help maintain good health. The multivitamin contains both vitamins C and E. Other specialist vitamins include a vitamin B complex, which helps to unlock energy from food, and a 200mg magnesium tablet which helps to maintain normal psychological function and normal function of muscles and the nervous system.
