A new animal study published in Food Science & Nutrition has found that the tomato-derived carotenoid lycopene can boost cognition, while also reducing depressive symptoms.

Lycopene is a red pigment commonly found in the tomato, and previous studies have implicated its potential in supporting cardiovascular and bone health.

This study suggests the role of lycopene as a cognitive health nutraceutical, though further human-based studies must be conducted to fully validate this.
