NBR catches up with Shaheen Majeed, Global CEO & Managing Director of the Sami-Sabinsa Group to find out how this acquisition will impact its operations and why Ayurveda is so important

Indian functional ingredients company Sabinsa has acquired Nature's Formulary, an Ayurvedic products brand.

This strategic decision will bolster Sabinsa's presence in the finished product supplement market, while also driving innovations based on core Ayurvedic principles.

Under the terms of the agreement, the founder and president of Nature's Formulary, PK Davé, will become the CEO of Sabinsa's Consumer Goods Division.

The team includes America's Finest, Nature's Formulary and the Sanutra Wellness brands.

To find out more about what this acquisition could mean for Sabinsa, we spoke to Shaheen Majeed, Global CEO & Managing Director of the Sami-Sabinsa Group.

AKA: What kind of new ingredients/supplements will Nature's Formulary bring to your current range?

We’re initially targeting Baby Boomers, often referred to as the “inflammation generation.” This group faces a wide range of health challenges, from joint discomfort
and stress to metabolic health. With Sabinsa’s unique portfolio of proven ingredients—both those commercially available now and those in the pipeline—we are
developing some exciting formulations designed to address these concerns and support overall wellness.

AKA: Why is this acquisition important for Sabinsa, and how will it impact your business?

At the heart of Sabinsa is the mission to improve human health. A new ingredient from Sabinsa, including at least two clinical trials, doesn’t reach consumers until 18-24
months through well-respected brands in the industry because their new product formulation and launch processes can be leisurely. And some brands chose lower-
quality commodities because they are cheaper. We want to get products that meet our high standards into consumers’ hands without delay. The integration of Nature’s
Formulary’s products and their existing distribution partners will speed up our reaching the market with our newest science-based, high-quality ingredients.

AKA: Do you believe that Ayurvedic interventions are rising in popularity currently, and if so, why?

We strongly believe that the traditional health system of Ayurveda is on the rise. As consumers search for a safe and natural way to restore balance in their lives, Ayurveda has become a more compelling and integrated part of their wellness routines. Companies like Sabinsa and others have taken essential steps to investigate textbooks on Ayurvedic treatments and confirm the clinical benefits—in Sabinsa’s case, including published scientific studies.

These benefits of Ayurveda are not simply based on mashing up leaves and putting them into a capsule; it’s about a methodical, scientific approach in identifying the compound or molecule, extracting it safely and naturally, and unlocking the profound health benefits that were first documented thousands of years ago.

Mr Davé believes that Nature's Formulary will also strongly benefit from the acquisition, stating that the company's partnership with Sabinsa will "present an incredible opportunity to leverage its global presence and robust infrastructure".
