Sabinsa has announced the publication of a study confirming the safety and efficacy of its Cyperus rotundus extract when used for weight management in obese individuals.
The study, titled "Efficacy and safety of Cyperus rotundus extract on weight management in obese individuals: A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study", was published in the journal Medicine.
A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of Cirpusins (Cyperus rotundus) extract for weight management in 96 obese individuals.
Participants who consumed Cyperus rotundus extract 500 mg with 5 mg of BioPerine (Piper nigrum) twice daily for 90 days, along with a recommended physical activity and diet regimen, saw a significant decrease in body weight, Body Mass Index and waist and hip circumferences.
The same active group experienced improvements in their lipid profiles and Apolipoprotein B.
This combination was found to be safe with no adverse effects.
This study demonstrates the potential of Cyperus rotundus extract with BioPerine as a natural and safe alternative for weight management in obese individuals.
"For more than 30 years, Sabinsa has been a pioneering leader in weight-management research, beginning with our early studies on Citrin," said Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa’s Global CEO and Managing Director.
"We confirmed early on that the traditional botanicals used in Ayurveda through the ages also provided benefits in related areas of concern for overweight individuals, such as lipid management."
"This published research adds to the body of science Sabinsa has been proud to produce during the decades."
Sabinsa’s Cirpusins, standardised extract from Cyperus rotundus (also known as nutgrass), is the most recent addition to Sabinsa’s well-established portfolio in the weight management category, which includes ForsLean (Coleus forskolii), Citrin (Garcinia cambogia), GarCitrin (Garcinia cambogia standardised for garcinol and HCA), LeanGard (proprietary blend of GarCitrin, ForsLean and BioPerine) and Fabenol (Phaseolus vulgaris).
Cirpusins is now available for formulators developing science-backed weight management products.
