Mara invests in tangible traceability to become the first microalgal omega-3 producer verified by ORIVO

Independent, laboratory-based verification gives brands greater confidence in the origin and authenticity of Mara’s microalgal DHA

Mara Renewables has become the world's first producer of microalgal omega-3 oil to achieve ORIVO origin verification, setting a new benchmark for independent authentication and transparency within the microalgae-derived omega-3 industry.

As omega-3 supply chains become more complex and marine supplies face disruption from El Niño and other pressures, shortages and rising prices can increase the risk of ingredient misrepresentation.

As demand for greater ingredient authenticity grows, brands and consumers increasingly seek independent verification to substantiate product claims and protect consumer trust.

Mara has now become the world’s first microalgal omega-3 producer to achieve ORIVO origin verification.

ORIVO, an independent verification company, goes beyond paperwork.

They use scientific testing and data-driven analysis to verify marine ingredients and omega-3 products, offering manufacturers, brand owners and consumers an additional layer of confidence in ingredient provenance.

The analysis can pinpoint Mara’s microalgae to a 99–100% confidence score.

“Transparency should go beyond telling customers where an ingredient comes from; we should be able to prove it,” said Harry Boot, CEO and Board member at Mara Renewables.

“Investing in independent scientific verification puts tangible evidence behind our commitment to origin, integrity and traceability.”

“Origin matters, especially as omega-3 supply chains face increasing pressure and new suppliers enter the market,” said Svein Erik Haugmo, CEO of ORIVO.

“By becoming the first microalgal omega-3 producer to achieve ORIVO verification, Mara is demonstrating a clear commitment to evidence-based transparency, traceability and ingredient integrity.”

For Mara, the investment represents more than a verification milestone. It is part of a broader commitment to give customers greater visibility, evidence and confidence in the ingredients behind their brands.
