Dr. Brenda Fonseca will present the latest scientific findings in this field at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Taking place May 4-8, ARVO is the premiere gathering for academicians, clinicians, researchers, students, and trainees in the fields of vision research and eye science.
Building on a 30-year legacy of evidence-based nutritional carotenoid innovation, Kemin continues to lead in investigations of the impact of lutein and zeaxanthin on health in growing populations. At ARVO, Dr. Fonseca, Global Technical Services Lead, Kemin Human Nutrition & Health, who has extensive experience in the field of neurosciences and has served as a college faculty member in the psychological sciences, will showcase her recent research titled The impact of lutein on macular pigment density in healthy adolescents: A randomised controlled trial on Sunday, May 4, in a poster for abstract #4258282.
“Pre-teens and teens spend more time on screens and eat fewer nutrient-rich foods than any other age group,” states Dr. Fonseca. “This is an alarming combination, as excessive screen time is linked to long-term eye damage,” she added. Lutein and zeaxanthin are key nutrients that protect the eyes but must be obtained through diet or supplementation. However, despite growing concerns about teens and screentime, no studies to date have investigated the impact of lutein and zeaxanthin supplementation on the developing eye in this high-risk group.
This newest research with FloraGLO Lutein is the first lutein supplementation study in adolescents.
