French plant-based chemistry specialist Groupe Berkem has announced the expansion of its H2Olixir range with H2Olixir Red Vine, a plant water derived from organic red vine leaves.
COSMOS certified (99.3% organic and 99.5% natural origin), the new plant water has antioxidant properties that help protect the skin from free radicals, soothing properties that improve skin comfort and a "refreshing effect."
The firm said it can be used in a wide range of cosmetic applications, including body care for a toning effect, leg and foot care for a refreshing effect and facial care for sensitive skin.
H2Olixir Red Vine is part of an upcycling approach that valorises plant-based co-products and, according to Groupe Berkem, can replace up to 100% of demineralised water in formulations.
The H2Olixir range is created through a drying process that extracts the naturally occurring water from plants while preserving their beneficial properties.
These products are made from upcycled waters, contributing to a circular economy. Upcycling involves repurposing a co-product that would otherwise be discarded, transforming it into a new cosmetic ingredient.
In addition to supporting upcycling, H2Olixir plant waters help reduce environmental impact by eliminating the need for osmosis water in formulations.
Since water is the most commonly used solvent in cosmetic products, Groupe Berkem has positioned its H2Olixir plant waters as a more responsible and environmentally friendly alternative.
The range includes Peppermint, Lemon Balm, Thyme, Lavender, Rosemary and Red Vine.
