Bimuno GOS, a prebiotic nutraceutical available for humans, has been adapted for the pet food market and aims to boost a companion animal's gut health

Nutraceutical developer Clasado Biosciences has entered into the pet nutrition market with a prebiotic ingredient based on Bimuno GOS.

To support this strategic move, the company has introduced the Bimuno Pet branding, allowing formulators to distinguish between human and pet iterations of the product.

According to Clasado, its prebiotic Bimuno GOS is the most studied prebiotic in the galactooligosaccharide category.

It's supported by 120 scientific publications and more than 20 clinical trials, and has been proven to boost gut and immune health.

According to Research and Markets, the global pet food market is expected to reach a value of $161.6bn by 2028, with a CAGR of 5.2%.

As there has been an uptick in the interest in animal health — specifically in the biotics realm — Clasado is well positioned to supply this increasing demand.

Bimuno GOS is also associated with pet nutrition-specific health claims in these Chinese and Taiwanese markets, which can be used on-pack and in marketing materials.

CEO of Clasado, Per Rehné, commented: "For two decades, Clasado has been at the forefront of prebiotic research and development, primarily focused on human health applications. As we mark our 20th anniversary, we're using our gut microbiome expertise to support the rapidly growing pet nutrition sector."

"This move represents a natural evolution for our business and an opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of companion animals."

Clasado's Head of B2B Corporate Marketing, Steven Riley, added: "The pet nutrition market is seeing a surge in demand for gut health supporting products, driven by the increasing awareness of the microbiome by the wider market. We can meet this demand head-on, applying our extensive knowledge of prebiotic galactooligosaccharides to support animal health."

“The pet nutrition market is growing at speed as owners seek to continually improve their pets’ quality of life. Gut health forms a natural area of focus in this regard, and of course, prebiotics. We're looking forward to collaborating with animal health brands and their formulation teams to develop microbiome-supporting products for pet health that make a difference."
