biomega, a European biotechnology company that develops salmon peptides and proteins for petfood and human nutrition applications, has appointed Nick Christensen as its Plant Manager for the company’s new biorefinery located at the Port of Hirtshals, Denmark, which focuses on human nutrition ingredients.
With more than 20 years of experience in the dairy industry, Christensen comes to biomega from Arla Foods in Sweden where he worked as a site director, supervising the direction of many large-scale projects.
Initially studying as a process technologist specialising in dairy technology, Christensen has held many positions over his career – from being a technician at Kerry Foods and Nestlé Brasil to a project manager at Vigor Brazil.
Welcoming Christensen to the team, biomega CEO Stig Petersen, said: “We are pleased to welcome Nick to the biomega team, where he will quickly become a vital part of our day-to-day operations here in Denmark. With the new biorefinery opening shortly, Nick’s experience in the dairy industry will be a major asset to the team, offering a different perspective on how to manage operational teething issues and the introduction of new energy-efficient technologies.
“Under Nick’s knowledgeable approach, I am sure the Hirtshals factory will be in excellent hands as we work towards net-zero emissions with our patented technology process,” Petersen added.
The appointment of Christensen is part of the company’s latest investment in a multi-million euro biorefinery, which has been built from the ground up to service the human nutrition market with high quality salmon peptides, proteins and oils.
Christensen said: “Joining biomega in its growth phase is a real honour. It is rare that you ever get the opportunity to be a part of a new factory from the beginning and to set its direction for success from the outset. There is a growing need for the products biomega® produces, including its new line of human nutrition peptides and oils branded SalMe, especially as the world moves to a more sustainable and circular business model. As the new factory manager, I am looking forward to this next challenge and ensuring the Hirtshals facility goes above and beyond customer expectations.”
