Bio-gen Extracts strengthens carotenoid IP with new patent

Patent grant reinforces the company’s intellectual property position in carotenoid formulation science and supports further development of differentiated nutritional applications

Bio-gen Extracts has been granted an Indian patent for “Compositions Comprising Carotenoids, Methods and Application Thereof,” marking a further step in the company’s investment in carotenoid science, formulation technology and intellectual property.

The patented work relates to compositions comprising multiple carotenoids and their use across nutritional and nutraceutical applications.

The grant is particularly relevant as interest in the synergistic effects of different carotenoids continues to expand beyond single-ingredient positioning, with formulators increasingly looking at how complementary carotenoids can be brought together within differentiated nutritional platforms.

For Bio-gen Extracts, the patent reinforces a strategy built around moving carotenoid innovation beyond sourcing and standardisation towards composition design, formulation science and application development.

Strengthening the science behind CaroRite™

The intellectual property is closely aligned with Bio-gen Extracts’ work incarotenoids and the scientific platform behind CaroRite™, its naturally derived carotenoid complex.

CaroRite™ combines multiple carotenoids in a single formulation and has been investigated in human clinical research, including recent work exploring selected parameters of skin health and emotional wellbeing.

The patent therefore adds another layer to the company’s carotenoid programme: protecting not only an ingredient concept, but also the formulation and application thinking behind it.

From ingredient supply to formulation IP

The nutraceutical ingredient sector is becoming increasingly competitive around differentiation, with intellectual property, clinical substantiation and application flexibility playing a larger role in how ingredient platforms are developed and positioned.

The patented composition is described for use across a range of nutritional formats, including capsules, tablets, gummies, powders, beverages, emulsions and other delivery systems, highlighting the potential breadth of application for carotenoid-based formulations.

For formulators, this creates opportunities to explore carotenoid concepts across categories where antioxidant nutrition, carotenoid status and healthy ageing are of growing interest, subject to the regulatory framework and permitted claims of each market.

The patent grant also reflects Bio-gen Extracts’ continued focus on building proprietary science around naturally derived ingredients rather than competing on commodity positioning alone.
