Functional ingredient specialist ADM has won a Vitafoods Europe Innovation Award for its gut and immune health postbiotic, Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347 (HT-ES1**).
Topping the list in the Immune and Gut Health category, the postbiotic has been shown to support overall gut and digestive health, while reducing bloating in users.
Meanwhile, ADM's newest postbiotic portfolio addition, Lactobacillus gasseri CP2305 postbiotic, was commended in the Cognitive and Emotional Health Ingredient category.
Prior to this year's Vitafoods, ES1 has received recognition in both pro and postbiotic forms at several industry awards, including:
- Fi Europe Innovation Awards: ES1 postbiotic was named the Health Innovation category winner
- World Food Innovation Awards: ES1 was a finalist for the Best Health Innovation Awards at this FoodBev Media-organised event
- Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards: In 2023, ES1 probiotic and ES1 postbiotic won the Best Ingredients Innovation Award.
"This win represents ADM's ongoing commitment to science-backed innovation through robust research into the gut microbiome," said Marie-Bénédicte Charpentier, Marketing Director, Head of EMEA, ADM.
"Vitafoods Europe brings together significant leaders in the industry, and we're honored to be recognized among them with our ES1 postbiotic at the inaugural innovation awards."
"ES1 postbiotic is a gold-standard example of the gut microbiome-supporting solutions within our portfolio, with clinical trials demonstrating its support for gut health and analysis reinforcing the link between the gut microbiome and different aspects of well-being," continued Charpentier.
The science behind ES1
A 2024 clinical study published in Gut Microbes indicates that the award-winning ES1 postbiotic may support overall gut and digestive health, in addition to the potential of supporting reduced bloating.
The trial, conducted in adults with IBS-D, proved that the postbiotic could induce clinically meaningful improvements in IBS Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS) scores.
It could also improve quality of life compared with placebo.
"Postbiotics are incredibly resilient, retaining efficacy through virtually any formulation environment, from high heat to high water content and more," said Charpentier.
“As such, postbiotics like ES1 and L. gasseri CP2305 are posed to pave the way for what's next in health and wellness product development, bringing forward new and expanded offerings in functional foods, beverages and dietary supplements," she concluded.
