The Shanghai site now includes development laboratories for the functional ingredient, biotech and perfumery industries

IFF, a functional ingredients provider, is expanding its facilities in Shanghai, China.

The company estimates the site to be fully operational at the end of August 2024.

The 16,000m2 site will support the development of solutions for the company's Chinese portfolio, focusing on flavours and functional ingredients.

“The Shanghai Creative Center will bring together capabilities across IFF in one location, enabling us to improve our delivery of end-to-end solutions for customers in Asia and around the world,” said IFF's CEO, Erik Fyrwald.  “This was a natural next step following the opening of our Singapore Innovation Center in 2022 and reaffirms our dedication to advancing innovation in Asia.”

Catering to the Asian market

According to the company, it has chosen to expand its operations in China due to the importance of the Asian market, which has a high growth potential.

The region's demand for bioscience-based products is also rapidly accelerating, which IFF wants to cater to through this extension.

"IFF has a long track-record of partnering with our customers to create successful solutions that meet their consumers’ needs," said IFF Scent's President, Ana Paula Mendonça. "The Shanghai Creative Centre will foster outstanding ideation, supporting the art of taste, biotech and perfumery."

The facility will include an open-office layout, a sensory science centre and labs set up for functional ingredient creation and product analysis.
