A new clinical study on PLT Health Solutions' mango leaf nutraceutical, Zynamite, has found that the ingredient can boost a user's cognition and mood after one dose.
Zynamite is standardised to ≥ 60% mangiferin, and can be used by itself or in combination to enhance brain activity and mental energy.
These findings highlight the potential of the ingredient as a short-term, non-stimulant, energy-boosting supplement ingredient that exhibits its effects within the first dose.
Catering to cognitive health
Cognition is currently a hot topic in the nutraceutical industry, with many companies looking to develop ingredients that can power the brain and promote health naturally.
Although many turn to caffeine for a well-needed kick in the mornings, drinking caffeinated beverages can often leave users feeling jittery, and caffeine crashes are all too common.
Therefore, PLT Health created Zynamite to offer supplement manufacturers a product that could boost energy levels and support cognition without the negative effects often associated with natural stimulants like caffeine.
The company has previously conducted research on Zynamite proving its efficacy, though PLT wanted to determine if the ingredient could offer the instant effects many consumers are looking for.
To asses how Zynamite functions when taken for a short timeframe, researchers from Nektium Pharma recruited 120 healthy students, who were given between 100 and 150mg of Zynamite.
They then measured key markers of cognition, as well as gathering data on each individual's mood and energy levels at baseline and 0.5, 3 and 5 hours after supplementation.
Cognition, mood and energy benefits
After testing Zynamite's potential as a non-stimulant energy booster, researchers found that the nutraceutical could improve processing speed, while also increasing focus and attention.
The mango leaf extract also improved mood and enhanced energy levels from baseline — with all the above effects being maintained long after ingestion (5 hours) after a single dose.
"The results of this study certainly demonstrate that using Zynamite S is 'experiential.' Cognitive performance and mood improvements were shown over the course of a single morning in subjects undergoing a demanding battery of tests." Dr Laura Lopez, one of the study's researchers and Head of Product Research, Development & Innovation at Nektium.
"This study proves that Zynamite offers rapid, sustained cognitive support relevant to target groups like students and working professionals. Improved alertness, attention, and focus for up to 5 hours, can help people stay on track during classes, studying, or at work," noted Jeremy Appleton, Director of Medical & Scientific Affairs at PLT.
To ensure that Zynamite could be included in a range of finished products, Nektium has worked with PLT Health to offer a water-soluble form of Zymaite.
