Luca Bucchini, the Chair of the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA), the trade body for the sports foods sector in Europe, has won the NutraChampion award at the NutraIngredients Awards Europe 2024 in recognition of his lasting impact on the sports and active nutrition industry and on the food supplement sector

The Chair of ESSNA, Luca Bucchini, said: “It is a great honour to win an award in such a competitive category. This is a recognition for years of support to the industry and also a testament to all the great things we have achieved with ESSNA, and it is amazing to see these being recognised by a leading trade event and its award-winning editors.

This is a great, innovative industry which I have consistently tried to advance and improve, and I am humbled and overjoyed by being defined a champion of the industry.

I would also like to say a big thank you to the ESSNA Secretariat, our Vice Chairs and all our members. This award belongs to them as much as to me, as without their support none of ESSNA’s great successes would have been possible”.

Luca has been Chair of ESSNA since April 2023 and former Vice Chair of the Alliance since 2017, after joining the Group in 2014. He has overseen its ongoing growth and has been advising on its overall direction, priorities and strategy. Luca has played a vital role in the work and the achievements of ESSNA to date.

The award is also a recognition of the work that ESSNA does to raise awareness of sports and active nutrition products among decision makers, to secure fit for purpose legislation and to tackle non-compliance, ensuring consumer safety and fair competition.

The Nutraingredients editors recognised Luca as a thought leader for the nutrition industry, as he has provided vital support to ESSNA to raise the sector’s profile in the press and help stakeholders gain a better understanding of sports foods as well as ensure those across the industry are in the know and on the right side of the regulation.

The judges also recognised Luca’s thought leadership and work supporting the industry’s transition to sustainability through innovation, development and growth.
