Identified as being from a sustainable source

Israeli company Enzymotec, a manufacturer of nutritional ingredients and medical foods, has gained Friend of the Sea (FOS) certification for its K•REAL krill oil products sourced from a sustainable fishery. FOS is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO), whose mission is to conserve the marine habitat.

With this new FOS certification, Enzymotec's krill oil products are now eligible to bear the Friend of the Sea seal, which identifies their origin from a sustainable source and provides consumers with a guarantee of a sustainable, effective fishery management.

'As a company that is entirely committed to its products quality, the FOS certificate for our krill oil products means a great deal to us,' said Dr Ariel Katz, CEO of Enzymotec.

'This is yet another milestone in the numerous efforts that Enzymotec takes to ensure sustainability throughout our entire line of products, from ingredients that are designed for the infant formula market to the range of Omega-3 based ingredients intended for the dietary supplements market, including Enzymotec's cognitive ingredients,' he says.

K•REAL is one of Enzymotec's premium Omega-3 products, extracted from sustainable Antarctic krill using a proprietary extraction process called Multi Stage Oil Extraction (MSO). According to the company, this guarantees the krill oil’s freshness and preserves the natural composition of Omega-3 fatty acids throughout its shelf life.

K•REAL has been clinically proven to be significantly more effective than fish oil in increasing the Omega-3 index, the company says.
