Keraplast has confirmed the ability of its oral nutraceutical, KeraGen IV, to benefit the hair, skin and nails.
The biotech company, which specialises in the manufacture of bioactive keratin proteins, has found that its keratin functional ingredient has the ability to reduce hair loss in older women by up to 43%, while also increasing the integrity of the hair cortex by 17.6%.
As well as its impact on the hair, Keraplast also found that the nutraceutical could reduce transepidermal water loss by 12.5%, which can help to improve a user's complexion, along with skin elasticity.
The study was conducted in women between 45 and 60, and was conducted over a 60 day period; the results have been published in the peer-reviewed journal HealthMed 18-2.
Dr Jennifer Gu, VP of Research and development at AIDP, a distributor of KeraGEN IV, commented: “This study verifies KeraGEN IV’s role in hair anchoring, which is a concern for many women experiencing hair loss due to hormonal changes or stress. It also indicated Keragen IV’s role in skin elasticity which can deteriorate as one ages.”
