GF Fermentech, a subsidiary of Genofocus, has added a higher purity variant to its MediQ7 range of vitamin K2 ingredients. Originally sourced from Bacillus subtilis natto strain derived from Cheonggukjang – Korean tradition fermented food-, the vitamin is used to address heart, bone, kidney, and brain health.
MediQ7 Pure has a concentration of >96% and 99.9% of trans-type Menaquinone 7, aligned to the USP standard. The ingredient is also vegan, kosher, halal, GMP, ISO 9001, and ISO 22000 certified.
Designed to provide brand owners more flexibility, the highly concentrated Pure product is supplied without any vehicles, enabling the K2 to be formulated in dosage forms of the brand’s choice.
Dr Han, CEO, GF Fermentech, said: “Using an ultra-high concentration of MK-7 is a key to secure the stability of a final product. “
“According to the study from Molecules Journal, the higher purity profile of vitamin K2 as MK-7 is correlated with enhanced stability. This means that impurities in the product affect the storage stability of MK7, and these impurities must be removed through a purification process. We’ve taken care to ensure that all our MediQ7 is produced using ultra highly purified MK-7.”
“Among vitamin K2 products released in the market, in many cases, MK-7 content of the final products was found to be lower than claims on labels. This is because the stability could be low when vitamin K2 is mixed with calcium or magnesium.”
“To solve this, we are using MK-7 concentration of more than 96% for all our vitamin K2 products, and also introduced microencapsulation technology.”
“Our microencapsulated vitamin K2, which uses a naturally derived compound for coating material to protect vitamin K2, has proved its stability through the long-term stability test and the accelerated stability test. Due to its high solubility in the water and transparency, microencapsulated MediQ7 is also welcomed by brand owners looking for vitamin K2 for beverage mix.”
“We have successfully introduced natural bio-actives materials to the global healthcare market over the past 20 years. Utilising our core technologies based on strain development, fermentation, biotransformation, purification, and formulation, we are proud to provide our customers with the expanded product portfolio.
The company says it will continue its focus on offering a reliable source of naturally fermented vitamin K2, aimed at overcoming limitations in market application.
