Global ingredient manufacturer dsm-firmenich has announced the opening of its new office in Jakarta as well as the expansion of its Karawang manufacturing facility.
Certified by the Green Building Council of Indonesia, the new Jakarta office brings together teams from the company’s three Business Units (‘Taste, Texture & Health’, ‘Perfumery & Beauty’ and ‘Health, Nutrition & Care’) under one roof.
For Taste, Texture & Health, the new office features new capabilities in food and beverage, including a baked goods application lab and a pilot plant for dairy ultra-high temperature (UHT) applications, supported by expertise in local sweet goods and savoury applications and flavour creation.
The office also has dedicated customer co-creation and innovation spaces.
dsm-firmenich said the new capabilities would enhance efficiency, strengthen customer collaboration and accelerate innovation.
"Indonesia has been an important part of our story for more than 35 years," said Timothy Elisafan, Vice President Taste, Asia Pacific, dsm-firmenich. "It’s one of Southeast Asia’s biggest markets and our new facilities will help accelerate our growth."
By expanding our innovation and manufacturing capabilities, we're making it easier to co-create with customers, respond more quickly to rapidly changing consumer needs and bring new solutions to market faster.
The firm has also completed the expansion of its Karawang manufacturing facility, which it said would significantly increase production capacity and strengthen its sustainable manufacturing to meet growing customer demand.
The expansion features new drying technology for reaction and top-note products, which is capable of drying both high-fat and high-protein products.
It also adds new culinary blending capabilities to improve efficiency.
The Karawang facility runs on 100% green electricity and electric heating is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 300 metric tons per year, while heat recovery reduces energy consumption by about 16%.
A busy month for dsm-firmenich
The news follows a previous announcement this month that the company had formed a partnership with Boltz PBC, an AI biomolecular modelling company.
The pair will use Boltz’s latest proprietary foundation models in dsm-firmenich’s ingredient-discovery process, aiming to find new scent and flavour molecules.
dsm-firmenich said that the pairing would bring "significant value to our business."
The company has also been progressing with its €500m share repurchase programme, with more than 6.4 million shares repurchased so far.
