Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics has published a double-blind dog study showing its Exclzyme Pet reduces pain and lameness, as joint health emerges as a fast-growing pet supplement category

A newly published randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial has found that Exclzyme Pet, a systemic enzyme blend from Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics, delivered measurable joint health improvements in 92% of dogs studied.

The 30-day trial used 24 dogs with diagnosed arthritis, split between a group receiving 1 g of Exclzyme Pet twice daily and a placebo group.

Researchers assessed pain scores, lameness, joint mobility and radiological markers. Compared with baseline, treated dogs showed a 56% reduction in pain, a 52% drop in lameness, a 49% improvement in joint mobility issues and a 46% reduction in weight-bearing problems, alongside a 58% increase in willingness to bear weight on the opposite limb.

Reshma Rathi, Vice President of Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics, said the findings carry weight for an ingredient category that has often relied on borrowed human data or anecdotal evidence rather than species-specific clinical trials.

"With joint issues affecting such a large percentage of companion animals, these findings are highly relevant for the pet supplement industry."

Pet owners are deeply invested in their pets' comfort and vitality and this study demonstrates that Exclzyme Pet is a game-changer in the joint health space.

The launch lands as the pet joint health segment is gaining significant commercial momentum.

The US pet supplement market was valued at $895.91m in 2023 and is forecast to reach $1.475bn by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 5.7%, with joint support consistently ranking among the category's top sellers.

Industry estimates suggest up to 52% of dogs and cats experience joint issues during their lifetime, while around 36% of owners already buy joint supplements for their pets.

Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics added that Exclzyme Pet is available in capsule, packet and powder formats and is manufactured in NSF GMP, FSSC 22000 and ISO-17025 certified facilities.

It is also vegetarian, gluten-free, halal and kosher certified, giving formulators flexibility across product positioning and consumer channels.
