Clasado Biosciences ('Clasado'), a global leader in the development of scientifically proven prebiotic ingredients and product solutions for the gut microbiome, has announced its attendance at Probiota Europe 2025. During the event, it will showcase insights from a new clinical study in sports nutrition.
Taking place from 5–7 February in Copenhagen, the event unites microbiome science and business, offering vital glimpses into the future of commercial gut-modulated health and wellbeing. Putting the focus on education, visitors can participate in keynote sessions, take part in roundtable lunch discussions, and hear the latest insights from a cross-section of the ‘biotics’ category.
This year’s event marks an exciting time for Clasado as it unveils new research exploring the important role of prebiotics in sports nutrition. The latest study reveals that prebiotic supplementation with Clasado’s prebiotic ingredient Bimuno® GOS can help protect gut barrier function and support gastrointestinal and immune health in athletes taking part in sport-related activities in hot conditions. The research, conducted with football players, demonstrated improvements in gastrointestinal comfort and immune markers during and after intensive exercise, as well as reduced duration and severity of upper respiratory symptoms.
Observations found a reduction in the duration and severity of upper respiratory symptoms during the six weeks of daily supplementation with Bimuno GOS, as well as an increase in a marker of immune function on completion of exercise at the end of the supplementation period.
Adding to the significance of the presentation, PhD researcher Connor Parker from Nottingham Trent University has been awarded Best PhD Abstract at the event. Parker will deliver a dedicated presentation on the findings during the Scientific Frontiers session at 10:10 am on Thursday, 6 February.
Dr Lucien Harthoorn, R&D Director at Clasado, commented: "We are delighted to see this important research being presented at Probiota Europe 2025. The study breaks new ground in understanding how prebiotic supplementation, specifically Bimuno GOS, can support athletes' gut and immune health, which is a big area of interest. This latest study will help support the growing body of evidence behind our prebiotic ingredient, Bimuno GOS, and opens exciting new possibilities in sports nutrition applications—which we look forward to discussing in detail at Probiota Europe 2025.
"Having Connor's abstract and contribution recognised with this award underlines the quality and significance of the research. It reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing the scientific understanding of prebiotics and their applications across different areas of health and nutrition."
The Clasado team will be available throughout the event to explore opportunities for prebiotic innovation in sports nutrition formulations.
