Brazil’s ANVISA grants Natures Crops approval

This meets rising consumer demands for daily health benefits in convenient food and drink forms than they are already consuming

ANVISA, the National Health Surveillance Agency of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, has granted “safety and efficacy as a bioactive substance” pre market approval of Natures Crops’ Ahiflower.

This approval was the culmination of a multi year review by ANVISA of Ahiflower’s safety and efficacy substantiation, which is required for foods or bioactive substances claims in Brazil.

Sandra Ayalla de Anselmo, Business Development Director at Ayalla, said: “Ayalla is extremely excited to have achieved the approval for Ahiflower oil with ANVISA with distinction. This opens up great opportunities to bring sustainable, complete & balanced plant-based omegas to Brazilian consumers and make a positive impact on human nutrition in our country.”

As a truly unrivaled multi-omega oil source, Ahiflower contains more omegas than any other natural plant or seed in commerce, delivering the health advantages of fish oil, evening primrose oil, olive oil, and flaxseed oil all in one plant.

The new ANVISA approval means that Brazilian families will join North American and European families in getting Ahiflower oil’s complete and balanced omega benefits

Ahiflower’s superior plant-based stability and aroma profiles allow manufacturers greater confidence in boosting more advanced plant based omegas into food-friendly formats that have historically been difficult to address with marine and algal omega-3 sources. This meets rising consumer demands for daily health benefits in convenient food and drink forms than they are already consuming.

“Many people around the world are seeking to boost their health and fitness through more mindful and sustainable plant-based ingredients,” said Greg Cumberford, VP Science & Regulatory. “They are also wanting to instill the same values in their kids through convenient, healthy, food-friendly formats like gummies, snack foods, and ‘drinkable meal’ options. The new ANVISA approval means that Brazilian families will join North American and European families in getting Ahiflower oil’s complete and balanced omega benefits.”

The Ahiflower crop is regeneratively grown by independently qualified farmers to ensure purity and traceability. Natures Crops’ recent B-Corp certification affirms Ahiflower oil’s eco-friendly status — unique so far among omega-3 ingredient suppliers. The oil is uniquely rich in omega-3 stearidonic acid (SDA) and omega-6 gamma linolenic acid (GLA), supporting heart, brain, skin, and immune health.
