Algarithm partners with Natures Crops on new omega oil blends

Published: 18-Oct-2022

The new blends leverage the superior oxidative stability and sensory properties of both Ahiflower and Algarithm’s DHA oils and concentrates

Algarithm and Natures Crops International have partnered to produce two entirely new omega oil blends for supplement, food and beverage ingredient usage. These new blends, Ahiflower 80DHA and 150DHA, represent the only vegan omega source and partnership offering the broadest array of omegas with great sensory properties.

The blends leverage the superior oxidative stability and sensory properties of both Ahiflower and Algarithm’s DHA oils and concentrates — alphamega3 and thetamega3 respectively. Formulating new category differentiating plant-based food and beverage products is much easier than from comparable marine omega-3 sources and more cost-effective than from typical algal DHA sources.

This partnership also signals an important shift in the Omega-3 industry: increasingly forward-thinking suppliers and brands coming together to find real solutions to meet and respond to rising consumer demand for high-quality, plant-based alternatives to animal-derived products and ingredients. Combining these completely sustainable omega-3 oils delivers both health and planetary benefits — every 1 kg of the Ahiflower 80DHA™ or 150DHA™ keeps 4,000 fish in the sea.

Ben Kelly, President at Algarithm, said: “The Natures Crops team have been longstanding partners of Algarithm. Since meeting, we have admired the quality, nutritional value and reach of the Ahiflower ingredient and brand. Seeking partnerships has been a core foundation of Algarithm since day one, and this collaboration will bring a new world-class functional lipid to nutraceutical markets around the world. Many thanks to Andrew and the NCI team for working with us on this new modern take on a complete omega-3-6-9 solution.”

We are very pleased to be partnered with Algarithm and share our aligned missions of providing omegas that are better for people, better for the planet

Ahiflower 80DHA and 150DHA oils each contain a nutritionally complete fatty acid profile, created with human and planetary health in mind. Algarithm and Natures Crops International have combined regenerative agricultural practices with fish-free DHA to create an all-in-one omega-3 solution that’s both sustainable and traceable back to the farms and estuaries from which it was grown.

Andrew Hebard, CEO at Natures Crops International, said: “Ben and his great team at Algarithm produce an exceptional algal DHA product and when combined with Ahiflower, it fills a clear and large gap in the market that other omega oils haven’t been able to. We are very pleased to be partnered with Algarithm and share our aligned missions of providing omegas that are better for people, better for the planet.”

Ahiflower crops are regeneratively grown by independently qualified farmers to ensure purity and traceability. Natures Crops’ recent B-Corp certification underscores the business's commitment to being a regenerative omega ingredient supplier vs. an extractive one. The oil is uniquely rich in omega-3 stearidonic acid (SDA) and omega-6 gamma linolenic acid (GLA), supporting heart, brain, skin, and immune health. As a truly unrivalled plant source, Ahiflower contains more omegas than any other natural plant or seed, delivering the health advantages of fish oil, evening primrose oil, olive oil, and flax seed oil all in one plant.

With the new DHA-enhanced Ahiflower blends, brands can add DHA amounts and related claims explicitly on product labelling.

No other omega-rich dietary oil blend provides such a beneficial content of omega 3+6 metabolites for optimal brain, cardiovascular, developmental, immune, joint, and gut microbiome function, or the flexibility for use in supplements, foods and beverages.
