Hernæs moves to biomega after a 16-year career at Lerøy Seafood Group ASA (Lerøy Seafood’, a world-leading seafood company based in Norway, Bergen.
Starting as a logistics and purchasing co-ordinator, Hernæs worked in various roles at Lerøy Seafood, including as value chain manager and internal sourcing team manager.
Commenting on Hernæs’ appointment, Stig Petersen, CEO of biomega, said: “Today, we welcome Harald into the biomega team. His depth of knowledge of the aquaculture industry is exceptional and his responsibilities at biomega will enable him to oversee the entire supply chain from supplier to brand manufacturer."
"This is key to retaining a transparent and sustainable value chain from farm to fork, helping the company – and those we work in partnership with – to meet our environmental, social and governance goals. We wish him every success in his new role with us.”
Hernæs joins biomega during its major growth period, which has seen the company become part of the LIFE CONQUER project, supported by the EU Commission and LIFE program, to sustainably exploit the side stream of the salmon processing industry.
Now in its second year, the project is spearheaded by biomega. The company is working to significantly reduce biowaste and greenhouse gas emissions through the supply chain, while improving water and thermal efficiency through its biobased process.
Hernæs commented: “It’s a pleasure to join the biomega team at such an integral point in the company’s history. Working towards a sustainable and traceable supply chain is hugely important."
"biomega uses improved biotechnology to extract the nutrients from upcycled raw material from Atlantic salmon and its technology is deeply rooted in the concept of circularity, as opposed to the take-make-dispose model, meaning it is fully in line with the EU sustainability goals."
"As Global Sourcing Director for biomega, I’m thrilled to be part of a business that is working towards achieving circularity in our industry.”
