ADM and Matsutani mark 20 years of partnership and innovation

The companies commemorate two decades of their joint venture while advancing prebiotic dietary fibre innovation with Fibersol

ADM and Matsutani Chemical Industry Co., Ltd with Matsutani America, Inc. (collectively, Matsutani), celebrate 20 years of innovation through their ADM/Matsutani LLC joint venture.

The partnership officially launched in 2006 after nearly a decade of collaboration on the production of Matsutani's soluble prebiotic dietary fibre: Fibersol.

"Our partnership with Matsutani has always been grounded in a shared commitment to advancing innovation through science," said Mark Lotsch, Global President, Health & Wellness at ADM.

"Celebrating 20 years together is an opportunity to reflect on what can be achieved through long-term collaboration."

"We've combined our complementary strengths to help bring clinically supported fibre solutions to customers around the world and we remain focused on delivering meaningful solutions for both manufacturers and consumers."

During the past 20 years, ADM and Matsutani have expanded the global reach of Fibersol.

Combining Matsutani's technical and scientific expertise with ADM's manufacturing and global supply capabilities, Fibersol has become a widely used functional ingredient among formulators.

The partnership has been key to continued global development of functional foods, beverages and dietary supplements.

"Our long history with ADM has enabled us to bring Fibersol to more customers while advancing the science behind its benefits," said Yoshinobu Matsutani, Vice Chairman, Matsutani Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.

"ADM's global manufacturing, commercial capabilities, and vast team of formulation experts complement our scientific knowledge, all of which has contributed to the worldwide success of Fibersol® and the continued development of next-generation dietary fibre solutions."

Award-winning innovation

Recognised for its versatility and clinical research supporting its functional benefits, Fibersol was named the "Best Functional Ingredient of the Decade" by the Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards in 2024.

It has been praised for both its clinically supported benefits and formulation versatility.

Its high solubility, clarity, low viscosity and stability across a wide range of temperatures and pH levels make it easy to incorporate into foods, beverages and dietary supplements without compromising product quality.

Backed by more than 30 years of research, Fibersol has demonstrated benefits spanning several areas of support.

Clinical studies have shown that Fibersol promotes the growth of gut microbes positively associated with health.

At 3.75 g per serving (15 g per day for 3 weeks), Fibersol may help nourish the intestinal flora and support a healthy intestinal tract environment.

It is also well tolerated at up to 68 g/day, supporting consumer demand for greater daily fibre intake.

This demand is fuelled in part by trends such as "fibermaxxing," which focuses on higher fibre intake to support gut health, weight management, blood sugar control and overall wellness.

In addition to gut health, Fibersol was associated with an increase in appetite-regulating hormone GLP-1 as part of a normal physiological response in healthy individuals when consumed at 10 g with a meal.

Plus, at doses of 4–6 g/meal, Fibersol may help to support healthy post-meal blood sugar responses in healthy individuals.

"Innovation only matters when it helps solve real challenges for customers," said Lotsch.

"Fibersol has earned the trust of formulators around the world because it delivers both functional performance and consumer-relevant benefits. Together with Matsutani, we're focused on building a legacy through continued investment in science and ingredient innovation."

The future of fibre

As consumer interest in digestive health and functional nutrition continues to grow, ADM and Matsutani remain committed to advancing the next generation of prebiotic dietary fibre solutions.

Ongoing innovations, including tapioca-based dietary fibre, are designed to provide manufacturers with additional clean-label formulation options while maintaining the science-backed approach that has defined the partnership for the past two decades.
