The deal adds a Ludwigshafen antacid API manufacturing site to SPI Pharma's network, expanding its gastrointestinal ingredients offer as consumer demand for gut health solutions accelerates globally

SPI Pharma has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Elementis Pharma, which was previously a part of Elementis.

SPI Pharma is a subsidiary of Associated British Foods (ABF) and is part of the ABF Ingredients division.

The transaction agreement was signed in March 2026 and has now been finalised following the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.

Elementis Pharma operates a manufacturing facility in Ludwigshafen, Germany, specialising in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for gastrointestinal conditions, particularly antacid actives.

The acquisition enhances SPI Pharma's capabilities in pharmaceutical ingredients, strengthening its position in the growing digestive health market, as more consumers recognise the link between gut health, overall wellness and immune support.

Freek Snieders, CEO of SPI Pharma, said: "The acquisition of Elementis Pharma marks an important milestone in our strategy to build a broader product portfolio and a stronger, more robust manufacturing network."

Consumer demand for products that enable better digestive health is growing. With an ageing population and shifting lifestyle factors, this will only continue to rise.

"SPI Pharma, therefore, aims to position itself as the partner of choice in digestive health."

"This acquisition allows us to better support customers with expanded capabilities, enhanced technical expertise and increased supply security."

SPI Pharma said in a statement that it will move forward with a "phased and thoughtful integration approach" that will focus on continuity, quality and uninterrupted service to customers.
