OptiBiotix shortlisted in Food and Drink Federation Awards

The company's GoFigure flapjacks contain its SlimBiome weight management ingredient

OptiBiotix Health’s GoFigure flapjacks have been shortlisted in the diet and health category of the 2021 Food and Drink Federation (FDF) awards.

Designed to address the obesity epidemic, the flapjacks contain a high proportion of fibre to promote a diverse microbiome and support the metabolism, the company says. The product also contains the company’s SlimBiome, which reportedly increases satiety and reduces food cravings to help consumers achieve weight management goals. The ingredient is also said to be suitable for other uses, including meal replacement shakes and dairy or bakery products to increase fibre content to an end product.

“The blueberry & raspberry flavour was launched on the OptiBiotix e-commerce store in May 2020, during the time of the UK’s first national lockdown. When UK consumers realised that restrictions were unlikely to lift, demand for healthier snacks began to surge as empty calorie cupboard fillers didn’t cater to the growing number of health-conscious consumers.

“We knew from previous market research that there was a demand for fruit and berry flavours, and collaborating with our supply chain, we were able to achieve an end result that had a superb balance of flavour to nutrition, especially at only 90kcal per bar. With GoFigure’s increasing popularity in the UK consumer market, we believed this was the best time to launch a new flavour. The flapjacks contain naturally occurring sugars and are high in fibre to make it easier to snack healthily at home or on-the-go, no matter what mood they are in.”

Following consumer research and human intervention studies involving GoFigure’s 2-2-GO meal plan over a period of 3 weeks, OptiBiotix found that individuals who ingested the product experienced a statistically significant reduction in savoury and sweet food cravings, coupled to substantial mood improvement. This means the flapjacks deliver a natural energy boost in conjunction to its healthier positioning.
