GOED issues advice on omega-3 immunity claims

In the wake of a global pandemic the global organisation has completed a literature search on omega-3 and immunity

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and confusion about the role omega-3s may play in immunity-based protection, GOED has issued an industry advisory on the topic. Using a proprietary clinical study database of all human studies on omega-3s, GOED has completed a literature search on the subject and does not believe the current science supports a claim.

While omega-3 supplements play a key role in human health, GOED has concluded there is insufficient data to link intake of EPA and DHA omega-3s to “general” to “viral” immunity benefits and GOED urges the industry to act responsibly in its marketing.

About GOED: GOED, the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s, is a trade association representing 170+ companies worldwide active in the EPA and DHA omega-3 industry. GOED’s membership includes all segments of the omega-3 supply chain from fishing and seafood companies, to refiners, supplement manufacturers, food and beverage marketers and pharmaceutical companies.
