Enzymotec has entered the growing sports nutrition market with the launch of EnzySport – a natural phosphatylserine-based ingredient solution that is clinically proven to increase stamina during exercise and accelerate recovery afterwards.

Phosphatylserine (PS) is a member of the phospholipid family and is found naturally in a range of foods. EnzySport is produced using Enzymotec’s proprietary Sharp PS, which contains PS extracted from soy. The formulation has been optimised to deliver benefits to athletes taking part in strenuous sporting activities.

PS has previously been shown in clinical trials to increase the time it takes athletes to become exhausted, to cut recovery times and to reduce muscle soreness. In one study it was found that cyclists using PS could ride for 30% longer before reaching exhaustion, compared with those taking a placebo1.

In another study, participants simulated the playing of soccer by undertaking intermittent running exercises. It was found that general soreness levels recorded after exercise were 50% higher in the placebo group, compared with the group taking PS2. In all studies, PS has been shown to be safe with no side effects noted in the trial participants.

Dr Ariel Katz, President & CEO of Enzymotec, said: “We know that even the smallest margins make a tangible difference in sport. With EnzySport, however, athletes can experience big benefits that will enable them to make the most of their training sessions and perform at their highest level in competitive events.

Our Sharp PS is already well established in the cognitive health category. This new formulation now takes it into fresh territory and presents an exciting option, with proven efficacy, for manufacturers and brands operating in the sports nutrition space.”

Sharp PS is approved for use in the USA, Europe, China and Australia. It offers excellent organoleptic properties and is easy to use in product applications, including supplements, beverages and dairy drinks.

Enzyomtec is exhibiting on Stand 7F59 at the forthcoming Food Ingredients Europe exhibition in Paris (1-3 December 2015), where its team of experts will be available to discuss applications for PS in the sports nutrition market.
