Aliga purchases microalgae facility for white Chlorella ingredient

Denmark-based Aliga Microalgae has acquired the facility as part of its scaling strategy to increase production capacity and secure the supply-chain of its proprietary white Chlorella ingredient

In August 2022, Aliga Microalgae purchased a microalgae production facility in the Netherlands from recently closed Duplaco. The acquisition was made in order to increase the company's production capacity of Chlorella algae products for the food ingredients and dietary supplement markets.

The newly acquired facility in the Netherlands most recently belonged to Duplaco BV, which defaulted in June 2022. As a result, the large and modern facility has been left unused.

As the new owner, Aliga Microalgae specialises in cultivating, producing and commercialising algae ingredients.

The purchase, including IP and customer stock, is a part of Aliga’s scaling strategy to increase the company’s production capacity and secure the supply-chain of its proprietary white Chlorella ingredient, which will enable the company to meet the growing demands from manufactures of animal-free, plant-based and analogue food products globally. Additionally, the purchase will strengthen Aliga’s position as one of the leading producers of high-quality Chlorella algae products for the European dietary supplement markets.

What will it be used for?

Earlier in 2022, Aliga Microalgae introduced its proprietary white Chlorella algae ingredient to European markets.

The plant-based ingredient has improved organoleptic properties enable applications in formulations that previously have not been possible due to green Chlorella’s natural high content of chlorophyll and strong algae flavour.

The new facility will enable the company to capitalise on the growth in this ingredient's demand.
